The role and why you’ll love working with us
We are seeking an experienced and driven Principal consultant to assist our clients in best measuring, managing, and mitigating physical and transition climate risks across their enterprise. The role will focus on leading our climate resilience offering with a focus on projects related to climate change risk assessment, adaptation and mitigation, resilience of the built environment to natural hazards, and TCFD.
You will have the opportunity to lead projects across both the public and private sectors that include the property, agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing, retail and food, and beverage industries. You will also have the opportunity to partner with Edge Tech, our tool, and our product development stream to develop and deliver a range of climate risk and resilience-focused tech products and platforms.
You will shape and refine our offer to clients as well as build Edge’s reputation in new and exciting places.
This role will ideally be based in Sydney, Melbourne, or Adelaide however, we are also open to considering other locations within Australia.
Key responsibilities of the role
- Provide technical leadership, project management, and project delivery in climate risk analysis and strategy, including TCFD response and /or specialist areas such as catastrophe risk modelling
- Lead, coach and develop a high impact team of consultants, overseeing their professional and personal development
- Be a trusted strategic sustainability advisor to organisations and/or clients with the ability to create and win new work
- Be a thought leader in the area of Climate Resilience and be at the forefront of emerging methodologies for climate risk assessment, especially in relation to sectors that Edge has strong client relationships with such as property, infrastructure, agriculture, retail, and food and beverage
- Lead and manage client-facing projects and project deliverables in accordance with specified timelines and governance requirements.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership, project management, and project delivery in climate risk analysis and strategy, including TCFD response and /or specialist areas such as catastrophe risk modelling
- A track record of being a trusted strategic sustainability advisor to organisations and/or clients with the ability to create and win new work
- A strong network across the Australian sustainability community, including but not limited to corporates and central and local government, and experience of leveraging this network to drive high-value sales
- The ability to work collaboratively within, and across teams
- The ability to thoughtfully lead and build a high impact team of consultants, to oversee their professional and personal development, and contribute to Edge’s culture
- A degree in climate and/or environmental science, engineering, economics, policy or management (or similar) with > 7 years experience in project management across multiple initiatives simultaneously
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience managing communications with both internal and external stakeholders, noting that the Edge team primarily communicates in English
- Excellent analytical skills, report writing and attention to detail.
- Ability to function in a dynamic environment with client-driven changes in priorities
Whilst not essential, candidates with the following attributes will be highly regarded:
- Experience working in engineering and or property sectors
- Experience in assessing and mitigating nature risks in alignment with the emerging TNFD framework
- Experience in the analysis of carbon footprints and the development of decarbonisation strategies to meet client commitments such as Science Based Targets
- Advanced Excel and Power BI skills.
